Brooklyn Councilman Rafael Espinal wants residents to shovel snow properly and safely
EAST NEW YORK - A Brooklyn councilman spent Wednesday visiting homeowners in East New York to offer tips on how to shovel sidewalks safely.
Councilman Rafael Espinal says shoveling snow from the sidewalk into the street makes it difficult and dangerous for drivers, especially snowplows.
"We should keep the snow on the side of the sidewalk. That way cars can drive down the street and our streets don't turn into an ice skating rink," says Espinal, who handed out fliers featuring proper shoveling tips.
Espinal says residents should try to keep the snow as close to the curb as possible. Residents are also advised to keep snow off manholes, catch basins and fire hydrants.
