BEDFORD-STUYVESANT - A Brooklyn designer is catching the attention of the fashion world as the industry's premier event kicks off.

Based in the heart of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Torielo Famuyiwa's array of couture pieces with an international flair have the fashion industry taking notice and his career skyrocketing. Famuyiwa says his inspiration comes from home.

"Being that I'm from Nigeria, I use the tribal influences that I grew up with so color, fabrics, embroidery," he says. "I do a fusion of what we wear here every day."

Fashion Week kicks off today in Lincoln Center.
