Brooklyn Diocese announces closures and mergers for BK churches

BROOKLYN - Due to financial reasons, the Brooklyn Diocese announced over the weekend plans to close and merge a number of churches within the borough.

The Church of Our Lady of Montserrate in Williamsburg as well as the Church of St. Edward the Confessor in Fort Greene are slated to be closed.

The Parish of St. Lucy/St. Patrick will merge into the Parish of Mary of Nazareth in Clinton Hill.

The Parish of St. Gregory the Great will merge into the Parish of St. Matthew in Crown Heights. The Parish of St. Ignatius will merge into the Parish of St. Francis of Assisi/St. Blaise in Crown Heights as well.

The closings and mergers will go into effect on Jan. 31.
