BROOKLYN - The Brooklyn diocese is expected to announce the closing of churches around Brooklyn.

The diocese says church attendance has dropped by more than 43,000 people since 1999. Church leaders say maintenance costs for the buildings are hard to manage.

The diocese has not released an official list of closures or mergers but will do so within two weeks.
