PROSPECT PARK SOUTH - A Brooklyn father who stood up for his son at a Prospect Park playground was fatally shot Wednesday.

Gerald Cummings, 38, was shot in the head Wednesday night on the playground at P.S. 6.

Cummings’ 17-year-old son was playing basketball in the park when he saw a boy who had stolen his baseball cap days earlier. The 17-year-old then called his father to help him get his baseball cap back.

Police say Cummings was shot by a 16-year-old while attempting to retrieve the Oakland Raider cap.
