Brooklyn hailed as king in world of chess
BROOKLYN - Checkmate! Two Brooklyn schools are being hailed as kings of the chess world.
Opponents are no match for students at Edward R. Murrow High School. Its chess team qualified for the state championship in Saratoga Springs after recently claiming the city tournament.
Younger students at I.S. 288 in Gravesend are following in the same checkered footsteps. The school's chess group also took the top spot at the junior high level.
