Brooklyn Navy Yard clears development hurdle

BROOKLYN - Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) says the Brooklyn Navy Yard is one step closer to creating hundreds of jobs in the borough.

According to Schumer, the Army has agreed to transfer its property on the site to New York City.

The move clears the way for the construction of a supermarket and retail center at the site. The project is expected to provide hundreds of construction jobs and 500 permanent positions. AP wires contributed to this report.
