BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn rapper has caught the attention of MTV and will now be participating in the Video Music Awards.

The rapper, Troy Ave., began his career in 2009 and has since made a name for himself by playing neighborhood venues. Since his meager beginnings, Troy Ave. made several mix tapes, and he says he sold more than 70,000 copies right out of his trunk.

Troy Ave. says his music once caught the attention of fellow rapper Fabulous, who invited Troy Ave. to join him on tour.

MTV is now featuring him as part of Brooklyn Hip-Hop Week, and he will be participating at the MTV Video Music Awards at the Barclays Center this Sunday.
