BROOKLYN - Police officers and family members held a memorial Wednesday for Detective Russel Timoshenko, who was shot in the line of duty one year ago.

The 23-year-old died from gunshot wounds to his face days after he and his partner were shot during a traffic stop on Lefferts Avenue.

One-hundred people gathered to light candles and share memories. A police officer will guard the memorial.

The three suspects accused in connection with Timoshenko?s murder are attempting to get a taped confession thrown out for their upcoming trial.
