Brooklyn residents brace for snow, hazardous roads

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS - An army of shovelers hit the streets of Brooklyn today as the first wave of snow dropped in the borough.

Officials said they asked the Departments of Transportation, Parks and Recreation and the Environmental Protection Agency to pitch in and help with plowing. They also brought in private contractors to speed up snow removal.

The second, more potent, wave of the snowstorm is expected to begin hitting Brooklyn this evening.
