Brooklyn residents celebrate MLK Day

EAST NEW YORK - Events were scheduled throughout Brooklyn and across the country as the nation celebrated the 25th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Brooklyn residents volunteered at four local schools and two community centers to paint hallway walls for students when they return on Tuesday.

In observance, alternate side parking was suspended for the day but commuters still had to pay the meters. Government offices, courts, public schools and post offices were also closed today.
