Brooklyn residents deal with bitterly cold temps

BROOKLYN - Many Brooklyn residents were doing their best trying to stay warm as bitterly cold temperatures hit the borough today.

The temperature is expected to be in the single digits overnight and winds will make it feel much colder.

On 4th Avenue, workers say it was a struggle to keep warm as they spent the day outside replacing gas mains. A downtown Brooklyn coffee vendor says the cold didn't help his business today, with 35-percent fewer customers.

Doctors say to wear extra layers and make sure the ears, nose and fingertips are covered, which are easily prone to frostbite. The city is urging residents to stay inside as much as they can and say infants should not be outside at all.
