PARK SLOPE - Brooklyn residents stocked up for the winter storm Saturday as the afternoon snow turned to sleet by 9 p.m.

People hit grocery and hardware stores to buy shovels, salt and food early in the day.

The snowfall, which turned to a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain caused icy roads. Motorists are warned to drive cautiously throughout the weekend.
