BROOKLYN - Brooklyn residents were looking for ways to stay cool as temperatures hit the mid- to upper-90s Saturday afternoon.

Many went swimming in Canarsie, while others opted to stay indoors in their air conditioning.

The New York City Parks Department extended general swimming hours until 8 p.m. Saturday to help residents stay cool.

The New York City Health Department is advising New Yorkers to take precautions outside, as the extreme heat can be dangerous.
