BROOKLYN - One Brooklyn resident that qualified for the Boston Marathon decided not to attend.

Michael Goettig, a member of the Park Slope Track Club, has been running marathons for the past 10 years and his time in the 2011 New York Marathon qualified him for Monday's event. When his family grew in numbers, he had less time for training and decided to sit this one out.

"The marathon is supposed to be months of culmination of hard work," said Goettig. "To have this sort of event is completely antithetical to what these people are doing."

Goettig says this will not deter him from running. He is gearing up for the upcoming Brooklyn half marathon.
