BROOKLYN - Nepali immigrants in Brooklyn raised more than $28,000 to aid victims of a massive earthquake that killed thousands in their native country.

Volunteers have also sent more than 20 boxes of clothes, food and medical supplies overseas.

Singh Gurung, of Brooklyn, says he moved here 10 years ago but still has close ties to the family and country he left behind. While his family members are safe, he says his heart is with the rest of the victims back in Nepal.

Gurung says the most-needed items are medical supplies.
