BROOKLYN - Schools Chancellor Cathie Black has announced that P.S. 114 in Canarsie will not be closing its doors after all.

According to the Department of Education, it made the decision after much feedback from parents and community leaders who have adamantly fought for the school since it was first put on the chopping block.

Armed with signs and caution tape, parents, students and other advocates rallied in front of the elementary school tonight, but the protest quickly turned into a celebration as they heard the good news.

The president of the Parent Teacher Association says that after winning the battle, they will now focus on getting parents more involved with the inner-workings of the school.
