Anyone planning to enjoy the sunny weather should also remember to take care of themselves.

BROOKLYN - Wednesday was the hottest day of the year so far, and the official start of summer is still three days away.

Residents enjoyed the day outside despite hot, hazy and humid conditions. Parents took their kids to the playground, where they cooled off in the sprinklers.

With the heat and humidity on the rise, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests drinking more water regardless of your activity level, and avoiding alcohol and sugary drinks.

The agency also recommends wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limiting exercise during extreme heat.

Temperatures are expected to cool down Thursday to the high 70s with some scattered showers.
