BOERUM HILL - The stretch of Atlantic Avenue from Boerum Hill to Brooklyn Heights has been named as one of the city's newest Business Improvement Districts.

While some business owners are celebrating, others are concerned because the news means an increase in taxes.

Business owners in the area will have to pay an average of $500 in new taxes a year to fund the BID. The extra funds will pay for street scaping, beautification and marketing of the area. Residential property owners will also have to contribute, but their extra taxes only amount to around a few additional dollars a year.
