CROWN HEIGHTS - Dozens gathered to celebrate a Crown Heights street renaming for a student who was gunned down.

Lincoln Place was co-named Benny Lyde Place to honor the Long Island University senior who was shot and killed in 2005.

Friends and family say Lyde was a shining example for the community. He volunteered at an elementary school and started a literacy program in East New York.

"He was never all about himself," a friend says. "He was always about his family, his loved ones, anybody he came in contact with. It was always important to him that he could be a positive influence."
