BROOKLYN - Dozens of Brooklyn students competed in the annual Columbus Day Chess Tournament in Manhattan today.

Around 800 students gathered for the tournament, organized by the Chess in the Schools program, at Frederick Douglas Academy.

Organizers say these tournaments aren't just about chess, they’re also an opportunity for students to socialize.
