BROOKLYN - Classes are almost out, but many kids are ready to hit the books and stay one step ahead for the next school year.

The Brooklyn Public Library kicked off summer reading with a day of fun Thursday in an effort to keep kids reading throughout their long break.

The event included a zumba class, face painting, treats and book browsing.
