Brooklyn students making the grade in math

SHEEPSHEAD BAY - Elementary and middle school students in Brooklyn and throughout the city are improving on math tests, according to results released Tuesday by state education officials.

The New York State Education Department said the gains are impressive, especially among middle school students. The state found a vast improvement from last year's test results.

However, officials said there is room for improvement. The Education Department only started recording the data under stiffer standards since 2005.
