BROOKLYN - While kids still have a few days to enjoy their summer before heading back to class, registration for public schools began this week for high school and transfer students. New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis Wolcott was on hand at a school in Fort Greene today to help students make a smooth transition. "You have a variety of different stories where people, though, have one commonality-they want a quality school for their child," he says. Education officials are urging parents and students to take advantage of the late summer registration before school starts next Thursday.Chris Lane signed up today for the Academy of Young Writers High School in Williamsburg. His father says he's happy that they got done with the registration process early. The late summer registration is just for new high school students, or for those re-entering the system after a long absence. It'll continue through next Wednesday.
