Brooklyn swelters under summer heat

BROOKLYN - As high heat and humidity gripped Brooklyn today, many residents took the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.

Numerous people were out in Prospect Park working out or just playing around while others were trying to find a cool spot in the shade.

The city is reminding residents that it has opened numerous cooling centers to provide people a cool place to escape from the heat.
