BROOKLYN - Officials in Brooklyn announced Friday that a new real estate fraud unit will become a reality thanks to money secured by Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).

The unit, which is a first of its kind, will be run out of the district attorney's office and will help fight mortgage and property scam artists. DA Charles Hynes said the days of going undetected are over. The unit will consist of a dozen staffers including attorneys and investigators.

Once the $875,000 is received, the hiring process will begin.
