Brownsville fire injures at least 3, kills dog

BROOKLYN - A two-alarm fire injured at least three people and killed a dog in Brownsville Saturday morning.

Fire officials say the blaze ignited inside a fifth-story apartment at 23 New Lots Ave. at around 6 a.m., spreading thick black smoke to other units.

One tenant and two firefighters were taken to an area hospital with injuries, officials say. Resident Theresa Holland says her neighbor's dog perished in the blaze. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
