BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn firehouse is celebrating a major milestone.

Engine 283 on Howard Avenue is marking 100 years of service in the Brownsville community.

Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano was on hand for the big anniversary, along with other FDNY officials, and current and former members of the engine company.

Captain Jack Burke said the firehouse gets a tremendous amount of pride out of protecting the neighborhood.
