BROOKLYN - Brownsville grandmothers took a stand today against gun violence at the 'Love Over Violence' rally.

The grandmothers are encouraging their grandchildren not to resort to guns to resolve problems, and are sending a message to other grandmothers to be more proactive in keeping up with their grandchildren's whereabouts and lives.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly was on hand at the rally to show support for the grandmothers and their mission. Kelly says that while overall crime is down in the area, gun violence is still disproportionately plaguing communities of color in Brooklyn.
