BROOKLYN - Senate officials are still working to finalize the state budget.

Legislators are still trying to close a $ 9 billion budget gap in the first draft of the budget. A spokesperson says they have been able to make cuts and reduce the gap to $1.5 billion.

Legislators say they hope to have the final budget by next week. The budget was due April 1.
