Cab service sets drunken driving prevention plan

BROOKLYN - A group of cab drivers will be working throughout the night on New Year's Eve in an effort to make sure potential drunken drivers stay off the road.

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers has a fleet of cars that will be offering free rides to drivers who have had too much to drink. Drivers can call the Federation's hotline between midnight and 5 a.m. Friday.

The group has set rules for the service. If you call, you must wait by your vehicle and turn over the keys when the driver arrives. The car keys will then be returned once you have safely reached your destination.
