Car crashes into market, customers allegedly flee without paying

EAST FLATBUSH - The Gem Fine Supermarket on Nostrand Avenue is still cleaning up after an SUV crashed into the front of the market yesterday.

But to make matters worse, there are allegations that many customers took the opportunity to loot the store during the ensuing chaos.

Three people inside the store sustained injuries when the car crashed into the front, causing shelves to topple onto them. They are all expected to be OK.

Witnesses say that during the incident, some customers gathered up on groceries and fled without paying for them.

The owner of the store says he is just trying to repair the damage first and hasn't taken the time to inventory what might have been stolen.
