EAST NEW YORK - The Department of Education has grief counselors on hand at an East New York school after a student collapsed in a classroom and died Monday.

It happened at the High School for Civil Rights on Pennsylvania Avenue. The student has been identified as 15-year-old Cardell Lee.

A DOE spokesperson says a teacher noticed he was slumped over his chair. The school called EMS and performed CPR. Lee was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death.
