Tenants of the Carey Gardens Houses on West 23rd Street in Coney Island blame NYCHA for ignoring their requests to improve their deplorable living conditions.

CONEY ISLAND - Tenants of the Carey Gardens Houses on West 23rd Street in Coney Island say NYCHA is ignoring their requests to improve their deplorable living conditions.

One resident News 12 Brooklyn spoke with says flooding from rain causes debris to fall from the ceiling and walls of her bathroom.

She said NYCHA came two years ago to investigate the cause of the flooding, leaving a hole in the wall behind her medicine cabinet that has still not been covered up.

Another resident in the same building says cockroaches and other bugs have taken over her kitchen.

NYCHA told News 12 Brooklyn that staff has been in each apartment to evaluate what is needed and that work will be underway shortly.
