BUFFALO - Buffalo millionaire Carl Paladino won the Republican nomination for governor Tuesday night, upsetting former Long Island Rep. Rick Lazio. Lazio was backed by the Republican Party, but Paladino had tea party support and surged in the polls as the primary approached.

Paladino has promised voters that he will fight for lower taxes, lower spending and smaller government.

He will now face current state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo in November.

Lazio did win the Conservative Party's nomination for governor.
