EAST FLATBUSH - Hospitals are reporting twin births at an all-time high, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A recently released CDC report reveals that twin births are now numbering 33.9 out of every 1,000 births -- an 80 percent increase since the 1980s.

Dr. Natalie Ohly, of Kings County Hospital in East Flatbush, says that two factors may be contributing to the surge.

"Both the use of assisted reproductive technology and the increased maternal age of delivery," Ohly says.

The hospital says it has delivered about 10 sets of twins in the last six months, and one maternity ward worker says she’s helped deliver hundreds over the past 24 years.
