PROSPECT PARK - This year’s Celebrate Brooklyn festival is officialy underway.

The 35th annual gala kicked off Wednesday in Prospect Park, where thousands will likely flock to see this year's concert series over the course of the summer. Nearly 30 performances are on tap, 24 of which are free to visitors.

Organizers say they're proud of how far the series has come since its inception in the 1970s.
