BROOKLYN - The Red Hook community came together to promote small businesses, while also getting to know neighbors.

The gathering was part of the first-ever "Celebrate Red Hook" festival on Van Brunt Street, hosted by Fairway Market. A heated tent was set up behind the store which featured local businesses such as Dry Dock Wine and Sprits and Lunacy Design, a t-shirt company.

Many Red Hook businesses are still struggling to recover after Superstorm Sandy. The event allows them to showcase products and be more visible to the community.

The festival is free to attend and will be behind the Fairway Market every Saturday and Sunday through Feb. 1. Organizers say they may extend that date if it is a success.
