GREENPOINT - Mayor Michael Bloomberg says major changes are coming to Greenpoint's waterfront.
Bloomberg said the new Greenpoint landing will include more than 5,000 new homes, parks and open space. It will also include a new school and some shops.
Preserve Greenpoint, a group that aims to preserve Greenpoint's architectural character, are worried the construction won't fit in with the rest of the buildings in the neighborhood. Other residents are concerned about the cultural changes the development will bring with it.
Park Tower Group, which is in charge of the construction, says the project is all around good for Greenpoint. The group also adds that it comes with public access to the waterfront and even some affordable housing.
Bloomberg also said there was plans to turn the old Domino Sugar plant into new housing.
