BROOKLYN - Christmas tree removal and recycling across the borough officially began today.

Authorities say all lights and ornaments must be removed before putting a tree out on the curb. Trees must not be in a plastic bag.

The pickup program ends Jan. 12. Tree chips will be spread over New York City parks.
