GREENPOINT - Residents in Greenpoint say they are outraged that the city is now claiming that the fences surrounding their homes are on public property.

Councilman Steve Levin (D-33rd District) says the city told homeowners on Monitor Street that their fences were built on public property that needs to be ripped up to repair sewer lines and infrastructure.

Residents in the area say they want to know why the city isn?t taking care of the sidewalks if the fences are on public property.

A representative for the Department of Design and Construction says it won't be knocking down any stoops, but the fences may have to be temporarily removed.
