CASTLE HILL - A 15-year veteran of the police force is in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital after being shot in both legs in Queens last night. Mayor Bloomberg says Sgt. Craig Bier and his partner were in South Jamaica when they attempted to stop someone who fled. Police say Bier and his partner chased the suspect who later opened fire on the officers. Bier fired back before collapsing on the sidewalk. Police say charges have not been filed against the man in custody.
