City Council looks to mandate cleaner fuel

(07/26/10) GREENPOINT - City lawmakers are looking to mandate the use of biofuels in home heating oil.

They say that the use of regular heating oil results in more air pollutants than all of the cars in New York City combined. Now they are looking to require that home heating oil be more eco-friendly.

Biofuel is comprised of the leftover cooking greases and oils that restaurants typically throw away. The Metro Fuel plant in Greenpoint is opening a new facility to handle the demand for biofuels and cleaner oils.
