NEW YORK - The City Council passed a measure today requiring businesses with 20 or more employees to provide them with five paid sick days.

The City Council passed the vote 45–3.

Lawmakers say about 1 million workers do not have paid sick time. Critics believe the measure could hurt small businesses and stifle job creation.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is expected to veto the measure.
