BROOKLYN - The city has dropped plans to build bike lanes in Bay Ridge after residents say the move would cause more accidents.

The Department of Transportation has canceled plans to build a bike lane between Shore Road and Bay Parkway. Residents say the parkway is a narrow lane with too much traffic.

A spokesperson for the bike advocacy group Transportation Alternatives says the decision is bad transportation policy and that bike lanes mean safer streets for everyone.

The lane would have run through Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst. Residents say they are glad the DOT listened to their concerns.
