BROOKLYN - City officials announced Friday a new development plan that aims to beautify the area along the waterfront in Greenpoint.

The project will include the creation of a 22-acre mixed-income development along the East River called "Greenpoint Landing." There will be three residential buildings with 5,500 units, 1,400 of which will be affordable housing.

The development, which will be funded both publicly and privately, will also include a new public school and four acres of public green space.

All three buildings are expected to be open by 2017.
