BROOKLYN - The Department of Education today released new report cards on the city's schools.

The number of "A" schools in Brooklyn and across the city dropped significantly by 63 percent this year. Five Brooklyn schools received an "F" grade.

Officials say the drop can be attributed to a new policy that raised the bar for schools to attain higher grades based not only on graduation rates, but also student attendance and results from surveys given to parents, students and teachers.
