BROOKLYN - (AP) - New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg isannouncing the results of a crackdown on illegal hotels.

Bloomberg says the city has taken action against 15 illegallyconverted hotels since May 1, when a new state law targetingillegal hotels went into effect. He says vacate orders were issuedat eight of the locations. City inspectors found one three-family house in Brooklynoccupied by 44 guests. They say the building had no sprinkler orfire alarm system. Bloomberg says owners of illegal hotels put profits abovesafety. He promises that city officials will continue to do allthey can to enforce the laws against them. New York State Senator Liz Krueger says the crackdown on illegalhotels will significantly improve the security and quality of lifeof New Yorkers.
