City teachers, parents protest cuts with 'Fight Back Friday'

SUNSET PARK - Hundreds of teachers, parents and students protested the proposed budget cuts to education today, demanding that the state put its children first.

Dubbed ?Fight Back Friday,? schools from all five boroughs demonstrated today, seeking to get their message out.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) has proposed cutting $1.5 billion in funding to schools statewide to combat a massive budget shortfall. State lawmakers are debating how deep the cuts to education will be as they inch closer to finalizing the budget.

The budget is due April 1 and some officials say it could be finalized even earlier.
