City to hire 300 new sanitation workers for winter

BROOKLYN - The city is increasing the manpower of its Sanitation Department by hiring 300 new workers over the next few months.

Sanitation officials say they have repeatedly complained about a dwindling workforce. The city is still recovering from a dismal performance last year after workers were unable to clear city streets for days during the massive December blizzard.

The city says all 300 workers will be hired before this winter.
